How do I create a Screenshot, Picture, or Image to add to a Policy?

Issue

Capture a screenshot or save a copied an image for use in a policy

Environment

Windows Snipping Tool, MS Paint, PolicyStat Editor

Resolution

The Window Snipping Tool, TechSmith SnagIt, or similar program can be used to capture a screenshot that will be included in a policy. The exact method for using the tools may vary, but, typically, pressing PrtSc (print screen) on your keyboard will either activate the program to designate a portion of your screen to capture or capture your entire screen and place it on your clipboard (similar to copying an image with Ctrl+C or the right-click menu option).

When capturing a screenshot using these programs, the image must first be saved as a local file before it can be attached and inserted into a policy.

Copied images must first be saved

If you are not using a screen capture application and PrtSc instead copies your entire screen to your clipboard, you will need to complete some additional steps to save it as a separate file.

1. Open the MS Word document, PDF, or other image you want to use. 
2. Copy or screenshot the image to the clipboard (Ctrl+C or right-click Copy with the mouse) or press Alt+Print Screen on your keyboard. 
3. Go to Start->Programs->Accessories->Paint 
   NOTE:  For Windows 8.X, click Start, click the search icon, and then search for and open the program Paint.
4. Paste the image into Paint by right-clicking and selecting Paste (Ctrl+V or right-click Paste with the mouse).
5. Click the rectangle above the select button. 
6. Draw a border around the picture you want to select, and then click the Crop button. 
7. Click Save As and select ".png" or ".jpg" as the file type, and then save the file to your desktop or other easy-to-find location.

Attach and Insert the Image

1. Follow the steps here to attach the image and insert it into your PolicyStat document. Can I Insert Images into a Policy?

NOTE:  PolicyStat will automatically recognize an image file (.png or .jpg) and provide the Insert Image button once the image file is attached in PolicyStat. If the file is not an image file, such as a PDF or other file type the Insert Image button will not display.
