How do I Link a Policy in Another Policy?

Issue

To use the Policy Editor to link to a policy or document from within another policy.

Resolution

All documents in PolicyStat are web pages. Therefore, linking two policies in PolicyStat is as easy as copy, highlight, hyperlink, and paste.

1. Search for and open both policies (linking from and linking to) in separate tabs to make this process easier hovering over and right-clicking each policy's title and clicking Open in New Tab.
   • Select the existing, active policy to be referred to, or add as a reference.
     • NOTE: You may wish to make a section heading at the end of the document being linked to called "Related Documents" or some other name so it is recorded that the link was created.
2. Click to highlight the policy's URL (or web address).

   • (e.g.- https ://yoursite. policystat. com/policy/123456/latest/)

     IMPORTANT NOTE:  Each new version of a policy is assigned a new PolicyStat ID number. Having "/latest" at the end of the URL ensures the address will always redirect to the latest approved and active version of the policy so the link doesn't have to continually be updated.
     
     A document pending approval can be linked to by adding "/latest" to end of the URL of the pending document.  When it is approved it will always redirect to the latest approved version as new versions are approved and replace it.

3. Right-click the highlighted URL in the browser address bar and select copy or press Ctrl+C on your keyboard.
4. Return to the tab of the original policy you are editing.
   • (NOTE: Ensure the original policy is open as a draft or is in Edit mode.
5. Inside the Editor, find and highlight the word or words to be made a link.
6. Click the hyperlink button in the Editor toolbar.
   
7. Paste your Link URL in the field that appears.
8. Click the green checkmark to confirm.
